Other than in isolated spurts, Robertson looked tentative and unsure of his role. This is his team from an offensive perspective, but he was clearly deferring to Michael and unsure of when he should be assertive.
From observation, I’d say its probably accurate to say Michael is at about 70% right now. He does not have any explosiveness and everything about his game is just slightly off. I think he can absolutely be a valuable component in this state but it is a mistake to clear out and give him isolation at this stage. 17 shots is too much and obviously disruptive to our offense, but that was to be expected to some degree.
Geist/Rau combined for 41 minutes in the rotations yesterday. From an SEC perspective, they are both essentially walkons. We have to figure out a different rotation that doesn’t rely so heavily on their minutes. They just kill us defensively because opposing guards can just break them down off the dribble at will, and that causes back end foul trouble as we try and prevent that constant penetration. Offensively Barnett essentially is a spot up shooting guard, and he has the athleticism to defend a 2. I don’t understand why he can’t slide to the 2 and we use Michael at the 3, and still allow for Puryear/Jontay/Tilmon to be our post players.
Our 2 lowest turnover games of the season have now both come against Georgia.
While I couldn’t have known it at the time, everything that has transpired since this point has only considerably re-enforced these factors:

Going to be an important week of practice, we have a lot of work to do if we are going to effectively change our roles and style of play for the NCAA tourney and be successful.
