I'll take an educated guess and say we finish with an RPI rank around 15, give or take a position or two. Our first round game won't help us, but if we play and beat Georgia we will have at least 2, and maybe 3 more games against teams that will enhance our RPI just by stepping on the court with them.
Plus, if they just seeded teams based on the RPI there wouldn't be a need for the selection committee. It is used as one of the factors, but there are many others too. Some of which admittedly are intrinsic to the RPI formula. I think we will be in fine shape if we beat Georgia and will be a 3 seed easily if we advance to the finals of the SEC tourney. And I think if literally 7-8 teams are bunched up really tight in the RPI rankings the committee is sophisticated enough to recognize the difference between say 13 and 18 is not that significant this year.
I think right now there are 11 locks for the national seeds and the last 5 seeds are still up for grabs. With a poor showing someone on the 3 seed line today, like an FSU, UCLA, or Tennessee could conceivably slip to a 4 seed, but the top 8 teams in the current projection, plus those 3, are in the top 16 somewhere. I'm certain we are considered the weakest 3 seed right now, and I don't think we are a lock for even a 4 seed unless we take care of Georgia. As i said before, we are still a 3 seed, barely, not because we had a great week. It is as much because the 5-6 teams right below us really havnt distinguished themselves as any better than we are at this point.
