which is usually pretty accurate, after today's games we are now down to #19 in RPI ranking, a drop of 6 places from last Monday. So no, that doesn't help. We really need to take care of Florida/Ole Miss and then beat Georgia to assure we get a top 16 seed. I think the fight for the last two 3 seeds and all the 4 seeds is going to be really tight, and we really need one more top 25-30 win to clinch it. Georgia is actually at 27 tonight, up 2 spots from last Monday. While technically not top 25, it's close enough.
The good news is there are a lot of teams bunched up real tight in the 12-19 RPI positions. The numerical difference between 12 and 19 is almost the exact same as between 19 (Missouri) and 20 (Maryland). It's less than half a percentage point; to be exact, .6304 % for #12 Duke and .6259 % for #19 Mizzou. That distance is really nothing to make up in RPI terms. Those numbers are from realtimerpi.com. So it's not out of the question that we can move back into the top 15 and as high as 12, with several wins in the SEC tournament.
Today was really tough though. A great performance and we could have clinched a national seed I think and been in great position for a 3 seed. Just didn't happen. Now we still have to close the deal. It would be a shame to play so well all season up until today, get all the way to this point, #11 on the last reveal, and then barely miss out and go on the road again to a place like, say, Maryland, Ohio State, Stanford, or Duke in a regional, the likeliest possibilities I think if we don't get a national seed. If Georgia, TAMU, and Tennessee all get seeded before us our destination will be a pretty short list due to bracket rules.
