Mountain Pine student arrested with alleged 'death list'

A Mountain Pine student was arrested Monday and charged with felony terroristic threatening for allegedly circulating a "death list" on social media, the Garland County Sheriff's Department said in a news release on Tuesday.

“We are well aware of the recent incidents of school violence and take all possible threats very seriously,” Garland County Sheriff Mike McCormick said in a statement released Tuesday.
Additional patrols will be set up in the Mountain Pine School District area as an extra precaution, and the case is still under investigation, the sheriff's department said in a news release.

The release said the sheriff's department was notified by Mountain Pine School District's administration on Monday of a possible threat of violence from a high school student.

Denise Taylor, the high school principal, notified the Mountain Pine School resource officer, Deputy Matthew Cogburn that a “death list” was being circulated on social media by one of their students.

"The student’s mother was contacted by the school administration for a conference. During the conference, the list was found in the student's backpack by a school official.

The juvenile was taken into custody and transported to the Garland County Juvenile Detention Center," the release said.

The juvenile is being charged with first-degree terroristic threatening, a Class D felony.
