Big weekend for softball team starts today...

Think we will find out a little more about the team by Sunday night, then even more after next weekend, which will be much, much tougher.
Schedule is:
South Florida Friday 3pm
UMass Lowell Friday 5:30pm
Oklahoma State Saturday 9am
Marshall Saturday 11:30am
FAU Sunday 10:15am
South Florida Sunday 12:30pm
Ok State is 4-1, ranked #19, already beat us once 6-3 in a game that wasn't that close, as we scored 3 in the bottom of the 7th to avoid the shutout. They have beaten #12 Arizona and lost to Oregon State. This should be our toughest opponent this weekend.
South Florida, who we play twice, is a decent team, 4-3 on the season, won their first 4 games, including a big upset over #20 Michigan, then has lost 3 in a row, getting routed by #2 Florida 14-3, and getting swept by FGCU. They were picked to finish 3rd in the AAC behind Tulsa and Houston, and are a decent team, more our size right now if you will. They finished with an RPI rank of 50 last year.
Florida Atlantic is 4-3 on the season, no significant wins, lost to #22 Ohio State 10-1. They are picked to finish 3rd in Conference USA, and finished last year with an RPI of 57.
Marshall is a decent program too, is just 1-3 so far, with a loss to #13 Auburn, finished last year with an RPI of 31. They were picked to finish 5th in Conference USA.
UMass Lowell is the relative stinker in the schedule, finished with an RPI of 189 last year. They havnt played yet this year.
Bottom line is these are 6 winnable games, to different degrees. If we come out 5-1 or 4-2 with decent, close losses, that would be a positive sign I think. A 3-3 mark, or worse, would indicate another long season, just like last year where we barely made the NCAA tourney and were dismissed in short fashion in the Eugene regional. I think we need to wait until next Sunday when we have 17 games under our belts to make an informed guess on what the season may be like. Next week at Mary Nutter our schedule is far tougher than this weekend.
