For one, there is no guarantee that anything you are told about distantly-occurring events are true. With few exceptions, all "news" is unreliable and perpetuated hearsay by its very nature. Secondly, most of the stories that pass as "news" are simply unimportant to anyone outside those directly involved in the event being packaged as "news".
I'd recommend focusing your attention on developing a personal philosophy with a proactive rather than reactive mindset, so that you can routinely and properly process any events that actually and directly affect you. To the extent you want to follow the "news", go as local as possible.
