pts/shot of the 3 is higher with most and maybe by far the most teams than with the 2 pt shot. So of course they should be shot- when unrushed - and more and more coaches are finally finding that out in the last few years. Also, I'd bet players have gotten better at it than 5 or 10 years ago.
As to your stat, almost no one hits 60% consistently, and by uncontested I mean there's no D within about 4 or 5 ft when launched. Some players of course will be better able to ignore that on-rushing defender.
