Preserved the life of her youngest. That child is alive and well today so I doubt she believes her mother made a hideously bad decision. To some people life is a gift from god that should be cherished not simply disposed of when we don't find it convenient.
Yes, religion guides the decision process of many Americans. While I do not share the convictions of many of them I do not mock them out of a false sense of superiority as you do.
The big difference between my statement and yours is that I expressed a personal feeling but understand that society may make a different choice. You assume your beliefs are superior to everyone else's and openly mock them for not being as 'enlightened' as you.
