The counter prominently listed the number of days the hostages had been held in captivity by Iran. And I remember when Reagan was elected, the whole hostage thing was handled within a day or two. I was a kid, and I will never forget seeing that in the paper everyday and how impotent Carter was at dealing with Iran.
And in later years, after they had managed to pay for their home and build a small nestegg for retirement, my parents recalled, not so fondly, the days of the high interest rates and how much money that stole from them over the years. I think it stood out more to them as they saw how "low" rates had fallen for future generations who were trying to become homeowners.
