Hey. You can engage in all of the bar stool theorizing you want. It is a free country. I am more interested in using comparative political analysis to figure out the consequences of policy alternatives.
When the impact of past episodes of these types of tax and regulatory policies in the United States are examined. The evidence points in the direction of higher debt levels and lower standards of living for the bulk of the population in the medium term.
When you expand the comparisons to similar policies in other countries, my impression is the conclusions are similar.
That is not to say that fiscal stimulus through tax cuts is not beneficial under appropriate circumstances. And I agree incentives matter. However, the evidence in this case indicates the fiscal stimulus is poorly timed and the design is inefficient.
But if spouting tired old bar stool ideology gives you some short term emotional satisfaction. Feel free to do so.
