I think having a government is prudent, people being people.

And there are certain things I expect the government to do. They include:
1. Having borders and enforcing them.
2. Having an immigration policy that benefits the US - i.e. who can get in and stay and become citizens and who cant - and enforcing that system. Open borders is stupid.
3. Having a strong military to protect our interests - again, people being people.
4. A penal system. Some people are dangerous criminals and should be locked up.
5. Property rights. A judicial system that recognizes and enforces property rights is important.
6. Police: this is related to 4, maybe subsumed within, but, again - people being people - I like having cops to enforce the criminal code and arrest criminals.
7. Local ordinances. Now I don't like all, but I would not want a factory or a brothel put up next door to my property.
8. Traffic laws in general are good. There are abuses here, such as speed and red light cameras - but overall, having some rules of the road is a prudent thing.
Law and order is good.
National security is good.
Property rights, and the means to enforce and protect them, are good.
I'm willing to pay a share of my income for these goals in the form of taxation.
