Rhodesia had one of the highest standards of living for blacks in Africa before Mugabe. Blacks there could vote, were in parliament, and were integrated into the Rhodesian security forces. Rhodesia was the third country to unilaterally break with the U.K. after the us and Ireland. The Rhodesian Security forces successfully fought a counterinsurgency against multiple communist groups. They were an elite unit that put the most other military, including the us military, to shame. Never defeated on the battlefield despite sanctions against them from the U.K., while china and the ussr armed their communist foes.


Eventually Ian smith make concessions to the communists and now it is a failed state.
