An extension does very little in terms of our ability to move on if he fails down the road. At most, it's an extra couple million, which is not a significant barrier relative to the overall college football landscape.
Refusing to extend him more or less tells all recruits we're in a wait-and-see scenario. Which might as well be telling them not to come here. They'll go where they know the coach isn't on the hot seat.
He only has three years left on his current deal. Adding two more to that doesn't really change anything for us but will look better to recruits.
