Yes, socialism has done so well around the world and we have an endless number of examples to evaluate. There is the former Soviet Union, Eastern Europe under Soviet influence, Cuba, Vietnam, N. Korea, China under Mao, Venezeula, Cambodia, most of Latin America until the 80's.
How did these economies perform? How did the citizens of these economies fare? Socialism and democracy do not go hand in hand. Capitalism and democracy go hand in hand. Capitalism is inhrerently democratic.
