I used to carry an ammonia inhalant in my uniform pocket for unresponsive persons. Had a guy pass out drunk in University Village. Wife was gone for the weekend and he cranked up the country music and drank himself stupid until he passed out. Neighbors complained about the noise and we were beating on the door to no avail. Had to get a watchmen to key us in.
Dude is passed out on the couch. Won't respond to painful stimuli and I am grinding my knuckle into his breastbone. Resort to the inhalant. Pop it and put it under his nose. Look to my other officer and say "I don't think this will work".
About then his nostril twitches and his eyeballs pop open and he sits up.
So now we have a wide awake drunk and we're having to explain why we are there.
