$25,000 per person, $50,000 max per accident for bodily injuries ... which in this case would be spread out over 5 people taken to hospitals, plus perhaps others that might have been injured but were not taken to hospitals. $10,000 property damage liability is the minimum, which would, of course, been split among the 3 vehicles not driven by the suspect... $3,333 per vehicle.
$50,000 split 5 ways, would have course come to $10,000 each for medical bills, pain and suffering, lost wages & future disabilities.
Also, policies typically have an exclusion for coverage in the commission of a crime. They would still probably get paid, but probably would not be made whole even IF they guy had coverage.
1 in 8 drivers in crashes do not have insurance in Missouri & Illinois per one study... but Missouri is more lax than Illinois in enforcing it's mandatory insurance law, so it is probably higher here.
It is also more common in the St. Louis metro area than the rest of the state.
and I'm going to go out on a limb and estimate that of people being chased by the police and involved in a crash have a much higher probability of being uninsured than the rest of the population.
