somebody else entered the room after the guard was shot
before the cops busted in the door.

As to why he stopped shooting, it may very well be because he had shot himself. Maybe he stopped shooting because after 10 minutes there weren't any clear targets.
But at any rate if no one else entered the room its all just speculation and doesn't change anything
