why you can't apply your notions of individual morality and ethics to collective situations. And it should also give you pause, since your justification for large central state action is often based on a decent understanding of individual morality and ethics and the mis-application to collective scenarios.

I doubt that you would say that someone who traveled a long way to kill another person who was being threatening would amount to justifiable self-defense.

Or would you?
