A puzzling question. He certainly was delusional which is a false belief you CAN'T be argued out of. . This puts him in the paranoid schiz camp. All his weapons further makes me lean this way. I would guess irrationaly he felt there was something about the venue that made him feel threatened. He was a comanche-enemy to all.

Basically this gets down to bad brain chemistry. He was psychotic, and/or they will do an autopsy and find some drugs. People who have been tweaking will become extremely paranoid, and can see green people, tree people etc.

Bipolars do things which are impulsive, grandiose, and refelct poor judgement. That he planned this argues against a quick impulsive act but I'd lean toward this too.

Somehow in his psychotic mind, these people enraged him. Maybe he felt insulted by what he thought represented this group. Maybe he felt put down, made fun of....something be it rational or irrational. He could have even gotten, in his own mind, a message from a dog( see Son of Sam) that made him think this was the way to save the world.
