Suppose you're a member of a club. It's not too tough to get into, you memorize a few names and dates, promise to obey the rules and...you're in.
Kinda like a fraternity. Or the lions club.
And it's voluntary, you can leave any time.
But in the meetings, they start with i dunno, the oath to the club. You need to stand and recite it, along with everyone else.
But you don't want to. Because 100 years ago, you're great uncle was a member of the fraternity, and he was treated badly. And recently, you heard that the club has not been sympathetic to law breakers and criminals in the community with whom you identify. If you checked you would know that it is made up BS, but you would rather be a victim.
So you take a brave stand and refuse to recite the oath at the beginning of weekly meetings. You still go to the meetings and the parties. You still drink the free booze and listen to the music. You still like the discounted tickets to ball games and the sponsored trips around the country.
But you don't want to recite the oath. And you don't want to leave.
What should the club/fraternity do?
