some half truth, it gets blasted in the media. People pick up the sound bites and trust it as fact.
Later the rest of the story leaks out. But it doesn't matter. It is either buried or just not blasted as much as the first inaccurate report. People don't pick up on the whole story but go on ranting about the inaccurate one that fits into their preconceived notions.
News networks already are on to the next big thing to grab attention and revenue.
