I think in this situation you apply all the pressure you possibly can short of all out war, And that includes whatever pressure is needed on China

Now you have reason to increase yer presence in the region and curb China's expansionist policies which also need to be addressed

You force N Korea to the bargaining table and let China know that were not letting them play in the Philippines back yard

And that is Xactly how Trump is playing it
