The Mueller investigation into the alleged Russian collusion continues for years and becomes a major Washington D.C. industry.
The Mueller investigation discloses and prosecutes numerous "crimes" by Trump associates and even Trump himself, pleasing the left wing. However, it finds no hard evidence of Russian collusion with the Trump campaign in the 2016 election, pleasing the right wing and making Trump a martyr to them.
Disagreement, discord and animosity between the left and right continue to escalate to the point that government becomes irrevocably deadlocked and society's ability to function comes into question.
Meanwhile progress and innovation march forward and AI becomes all pervasive, literally taking over the operation of every significant activity in the world.
Finale scene: The AI's are debating how to deal with the "noise" and "disruption" being caused by the ongoing left right divide. Some suggest annihilating the left, some the right and the final conclusion is just annihilate mankind.
