They don't really serve their mission, they serve to pay their staff, raise money, with an occasional nod to their mission statement.
It's a vicious cycle between being in a dem office, to one of the charities, to back in power again, or a stint in media.
That's why the press plays so nice with dems, because while they think the same way, dems also pay off with nice jobs.
