on the ridge then your men will be pinned down in the valley. Many will be killed because of your failure, maybe even all of them.
It does take a lot to answer your question with so many variables. There are so many covenants. There isn't just one, of course, made 100's of years post David.
History of it in a moment:
God says yeah you've beaten, stabbed, slapped me, spat on me but if you will just do this parred down covenant - you'll be fine. The people do that pretty much. After awhile they go back to what they were doing beforehand, but now they add more to it. But now it will be worse, more humiliating.
God comes back with an even easier one to keep. Time after time this cycle repeats.
Finally he sends his Son - the final covenant. "Could you folks just please call on his name just once? Is that to much to ask?" Rom 10:13
This verse will answer a lot about your original question. I don't think it's widely known.
