my classmate forum. Thought it was interesting. Wonder how much of this Trump is even aware of. (I haven't yet looked at 38north.org).

And although not an expert in nuclear weapons, I do not suggest a preemptive nuke attack. Here's what I'm assuming:
1. that our intelligence knows where Kim is located most all of the time;
2. that our airpower could effectively eliminate the DPRK air force in a massive first strike, along with ROK and Japanese AFs.
3. that we know where Kim's facilities for producing nukes are located, and where his launch sites are likely to be
4. that our army and air force each have the DPRK artillery tubes registered, as well as likely alternate positons, and that a combined air/artillery strike would disable their capability to inflict massive casualties on the greater Seoul population
5. that the Navy has a good read on location of DPRK submarines, which although they do not currently have the capability of delivering underwater missiles, are surely proceeding along the track of developing same
6. that we are virtually immediately aware of any attempts to prepare missiles for launch through satellite surveillance
7. that our air-delivered ordnance is capable of decapitating the DPRK

I say no nukes because I do not believe they are necessary, and the inordinate loss of life to civilians in the target area(s) would be immoral.

I believe a massive, joint-arms strike would put an end to the DPRK. I would also inform the Chinese, if such a decision were taken, to evacuate their people within 24 hrs. Of course, we must assume that would be communicated to Kim, and he may then try a first strike of his own. We would be prepared for that, and would launch ours as soon as it became known.

I do not see how any president can continue to rely on diplomacy, and insist that "all options are on the table." (That phrase has become so trite that it is meaningless.)

I believe Kim is ruthless enough that he would risk a nuke exchange if he thought his position had become untenable, concluding - as Hitler reportedly did in the final days - that his people did not deserve him.

By the way, I recently became aware of one good soul - a British expatriate - who has been toiling in the vineyard amassing substantial information about the scientific/technical capabilities of NK. His name is Martyn Williams. I recommend his website to anyone interested in this area. His organization is 38 North. Either google his name or find him at http://38north.org. His recent paper entitled "Catch Me If You Can: North Korea Works to Improve Communications Security" (Apr '17) informs us that NK scientists have developed a quantum encryption device, which can form the basis for a communications system that is completely secure from hackers and eavesdroppers.

Time is not on our side.
