He inspires folks. Jesus, ostensibly Osteen's God, was pretty adamant that you cannot serve two masters.

And the idea that God "wants" anything at all, let alone that he wants us to be prosperous or to send our kids to college is way too an anthropomorphic view of God for me anyway.
