They're far left, usually communist, ideologues.
They don't care what the Democratic Party is doing or what helps them, they're interested in social and political change. They are the enemy.
The fact that the Democratic Party can use them to rally up the votes and get out the vote is a happy benefit for the DNC. The DNC itself doesn't care much for their politics, as was exhibited by the primary. However, if they do come to power, they'll do it within the DNC.
