ANAHEIM — Two people were killed after a motorist drove the wrong way on the southbound 241 toll road early Sunday, Aug. 27, the California Highway Patrol said.
The collision between a black Mercedes and a white Toyota Prius was first reported around 3:27 a.m. after drivers saw the two cars in the middle lane of the southbound 241 near the 91 freeway, said CHP Officer Justin Lopez.
A CHP investigation showed that Jesus Alvarado, 33, of Riverside was driving the Mercedes north in the southbound fast lane of the 241 when his car collided head-on with the Prius, according to a report by Officer B. Dotson.
Both the woman and man in the Prius were pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner’s office later identified the Prius driver as 70-year-old Young Yoon of Lake Forest and passenger as Steve Yoon of Irvine.
After the collision, Alvarado’s Mercedes spun across all southbound lanes, stopped and caught fire, according to the report. He was taken to a hospital.
