the University of Texas campus, seemed to not realize that Stephen Austin, who was born in Virginia but raised in Southeast Missouri & is known as "the father of Texas," with the state capital & home of the University of Texas named after him was adamant that one condition to Texas accepting statehood was that Texans would be able to retain their slave ownership!
