You incorrectly said that "ALL these songs came from his (James Cagney's) work." You did not mention George M. Cohan once. "ALL these songs" were written by Cohan 30-40 years before Cagney performed them in the movie.

This is not to take anything away from James Cagney or "Yankee Doodle Dandy." I have thoroughly enjoyed the movie and feel that he and it deserved the Oscars they won. But "ALL these songs" came from George M. Cohan's work. Cagney performed them.
