Meddling in the internal politics of nations is the US forte'. Putin just wants a safe and economically viable Russia. Gorbachev wanted to keep a former Soviet trade block the wast said no, the US sent economic advisers to slow their economy but they finally recovered. Putin realizes that Russia has the potential in 45 or 50 years to have the largest economy in Europe and he cannot do that without European investment in High tech development. The Only chance that he has to do this is to get the Europeans making decisions independent of the US. Disagreement in Syria and other things will help We currently have a President that is doing a good job of that I am sure that Putin has something on him. Not only that We should have the sense to keep out of a conventional war with them In Syria
