most people. In general normal insurance pays for hospitalization to a certain point and then a person is eligible for skilled nursing/home care for an additional period of time. After that a person without specific long-term care is pretty much on their own. After a period of asset pay down they can become eligible for Medicaid and SS Disability which pays for extended nursing home care. It's not an easy process and families suffer considerable hardship regardless of their paying abilities. I would encourage persons regardless of age to obtain Long-Term Care insurance.
