For example - global temperature changes may be more drastically affected by solar flares - right? One possible variable and one beyond our control. However, if we know or even believe that global temperature changes are affected or even potentially affected by man-made emissions, isn't it prudent to try and do something about that?

I'm certainly not a global warming nut, but seems to me that it's prudent to try and limit things that we can reasonably control.
