but being ranked in the top 15 means you are pretty good and should be able to beat a couple of rounds worth of lesser teams each year in my mind.

Not an exact science for sure. kU does it by beating up on a sub par baby seals in the little 12 each year.

put them in any other p4 conference and that probably never happens.
