Evgeny Buryakov, 41, a Russian citizen who worked at Vnesheconombank and whom U.S. authorities accused of posing as a banker while participating in a New York spy ring, pleaded guilty to a criminal conspiracy charge on March 24. Buryakov admitted in federal court in Manhattan to acting as an agent for the Russian government without notifying U.S. authorities.
He was prosecuted by the office of the U.S. attorney in Manhattan led by Preet Bharara, who was among several chief prosecutors fired earlier this month Trump.
Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law, had meetings with Russian Vnesheconombank in December while the bank sits under US sanctions. Kushner met with Sergei Gorkov, chairman of Vnesheconombank.
Gorkov was appointed head of Vnesheconombank in early 2016 by Russian President Vladimir Putin. He graduated from the Federal Security Service, or FSB, Russia’s internal security agency.
Damn. This is getting interesting.
