Hello Mizzou fans. If my witty name doesn't give it away illini fan here.
Couple quick comments.. I really like the C. Martin hire by Mizzou. I liked it more than I would have liked Crean frankly. I think with his recruiting ties and familiarity with the region he can get players to Mizzou. Heck he got C. Moore (from CPL) to Cali.
In regards to Underwood obviously there's the battle over J. Walker which will help with recruiting a great deal. One of his assistants is a pretty good recruiter and a large portion of the S. Carolina team you see right now was recruited by Underwood and one of his assistants.
Frankly I can't stand SLU and I expect both Martin and Underwood to be able to recruit more than just STL and Chicago so while I don't wish you guys luck against us in our occasional head to head recruiting battles I hope this puts SLU back in their place.
As far as his "coaching chops" obviously his record for AP speaks for itself (one conference loss making the tournament each season winning a game 2/3)
Here's some other numbers to consider:
"Stephen F Austin kenpom offensive ranking by year:
2012- 278
2013- 208
2014 - 57 (Underwood)
2015 - 32 (Underwood)
2016 - 57 (Underwood)
2017 - 314
Oklahoma State:
2016 - 153
2017 - 1 (Underwood)"
So the guy can teach offense.. Now.. Defense is another thing..
