good enough recruiter to pull it off any faster than that. In fact, he's really not a good recruiter at all.
Look at how long it took him at Indiana — with their blue-blood advantages and resources — to rebuild a cratered program.
And his early success at Marquette was primarily due to bringing in "Prop 48" players that other teams wouldn't take (similar to NU and KSU in the old days). As TigerUppercut explains:
"[Crean is] supposedly not that dirty, although he did make his name with Prop 48 kids at Marquette that a lot of other programs wouldn't take (DWade being an example). That's another mark against him, because that glitch doesn't exist anymore."
If you want a rebuild that takes until the 2022-23 season (if it happens at all), a coach who's extremely inconsistent and normally has a big drop-off after winning seasons, a less-than-stellar recruiter, and someone who's considered by many to have a creepy and/or awkward personality, then Crean is your guy.
I'd rather have someone who can potentially turn this thing around in 2-3 years — especially someone who is regarded as a good recruiter to rapidly infuse some talent in our program.
