to be a mediocre coach, fielding mediocre teams even with top talent. Much like Johnny Jones at LSU, and look at what he accomplished with #1 superstar recruit Ben Simmons — NOTHING — not even an NCAA tournament bid.
But hey, maybe UW is able to reach the NCAA tournament with Porter and lose in the 1st or 2nd round. That's a decent season. But there's one problem... Porter is GONE after that season and then it's back to mediocrity. Since Romar just reached an NCAA tournament, you'll have to wait and endure a couple more seasons before you can fire him.
Then it's 2020 and you're right back to where you would have been if you had fired him in 2017.
It's not a good long-term move for UW to keep Romar. If it were MU's situation, I would absolutely want him to be fire after this season, even if it means losing the one-and-done Porter sons. You have to do what's best for the program, long-term.
