I am not against humanitarian, voluntary donations.

You can see the important difference, right?

Also, there is your use of "friends" again.

"We should let our friends, however you define them, starve or die of disease, before giving any of um's money to them."

If you feel this way, then I have to presume that you donate 100% of your money to govt. or possibly directly to charities to fight world hunger and disease. Otherwise, get off your soap box.
