Mizzou back in the day and I never heard of refs coming to every practice. It's quite normal for them to come to the scrimmages once or twice a week in the preseason to both get themselves some practice and to get the players used to the reffing. But I have never heard of refs coming to every practice and not only attending but reffing a lot of the drills, not just the scrimmages.
