They don't matter. And the results have no bearing on the regular season. Sure, this was the closest (and probably ugliest) exhibition Mizzou has had in recent memory, but Michigan State just won an exhibition game by 10 a few days ago against Saginaw Valley State. Teams lose exhibition games all the time, and they mean nothing. In 2009-10, Syracuse lost an exhibition to a DII team and then won the Big East.
So I'm not too concerned about last night's result. Puryear won't play that poorly on the offensive end very often. Walton had the flu.
I liked the energy of the newcomers. Geist seemed aggressive, Hughes played pretty well and Smith and Jackson showed some explosiveness and athleticism. Nikko played tough too. Not that any of this this really means anything in an exhibition game, but it'll be interesting to see what happens in the non-conference with them, once the rotations get set.
I still think this is a team that can finish .500 in league play and play in the post-season. But we'll see.
