Per Brady Deaton's interview published by AD at the time of the switch:
1. MU became concerned that if Texas, Texas Tech, OU and OState left the Big XII that Mizzou would end up in a situation in which the Tiger AD received less TV revenue.
2. In order to avoid getting less TV money, Deaton had Alden approach other conferences, namely the B1G and the SEC.
3. The B1G was willing to take Mizzou if it would take a reduced TV share for a number of years.
4. The SEC was willing to take Mizzou with no reduced TV share. So Mizzou went with the SEC because there was no initial reduction in its TV money share.
5. Both the B1G and SEC wanted Mizzou for the cable TV subscribers in the St. Louis and KC metro areas.
6. Bottom line, the reason Mizzou went to the SEC was the money. If the B1G had not wanted to reduce the TV share for a number of years, the Tigers would be in the B1G and playing in Lincoln, Iowa City, Madison, Minneapolis, etc.
7. Prestige, etc. is nice but none of those were the determining factor. It was the $$$.
