critical large-scale, shared interests such as transportation, sewage treatment, etc., those operations simply CAN'T be jeopardized by funding shortfalls, depressed economies etc. If it can be proven that there is enough private interest to make travel everywhere PREDICTABLE and UNIFORM, then more power to them.

There is a big city in Texas that is laying the groundwork for going completely private and is being funded by world-wide billionaires...I'll watch with interest.
