The SEC Network has content that people are willing to pay for more than any other conference network, or maybe even regular sports networks, by the time the dust settles. The SEC Network can therefore command ad revenues which they profit from.

As ESPN sinks, the SEC will become more important to college sports. Put it this way, the national contracts and payments to conferences with lower numbers of viewers will be suppressed. Those games that have better viewership will still get paid. In comparison, the Big 12 and maybe the PAC or ACC will suffer next to the SEC and Big 10.

That's why conference footprint and total numbers of viewers from those states matter. A lot.
