expanded to ranking 25 teams only in 1989. Before then, they only ranked ten teams or 20 teams. Teams, like Mizzou, who were stronger prior to 1987, missed a LOT of points for appearances in the polls because they didn't rate as many teams.
On the other, teams like KSU, who have know success only since 1987, received a lot more points for appearing in the expanded polls.
Apples and Oranges. Their formula is skewed to reward teams with more recent success.
When alltime wins or alltime winning percentages are the criteria, Mizzou rises to #31, while KSU falls down to the bottom of the barrel where they belong and will soon return.
