We had no business winning the East that year, but we gutted out victories. Unlike 2013, when I thought we had a shot at winning the conference, there was no way we had the athletes to compete that year against Bama.
Winning the division in 2014 was a joyous surprise.
This year, our defense will be about as good. Too soon to tell which side of that, but if we are about the same, our defense will keep us in games. A key play here or there and we will win games maybe we shouldn't.
I'm not seeing anything from Odom so far that makes me concerned. His late recruiting plugged holes we knew we had. That tells me something. We already know what he defenses can do, which he's done at two different schools. The coaching changes (especially Ellarbe, Heupel and Hill) make perfect sense to me and also directly address our weaknesses on offense. Whether these changes will be successful or not is just an opinion at this point, but I see good things ahead.
