A similar angle can be played for government and anarchy. You start out with Government, you reject it, strip it down to nothing, then you discover a new form, no longer an authoritarian hierarchy fortified by every major element in society.
The transition from Old Man God to the spirit model of God is akin to the mental transition from what we know as Government to a free socialist model society.
