that the state is deliberately imposing its secular humanist values upon society via what amounts to prohibitively expensive annual fines for parents who prefer to have their children taught in an environment consistent with their core religious values.
Secular humanists or those who don't care, or those who submit to the state's power have their education for free. Those who don't want the secular humanist indoctrination are forced to pay for both the children of those in the state's secular humanist indoctrination program, and also for the schools in line with their own moral values.
If it costs $4,000 per year per student, why not give each student a voucher for $4,000 (or even $3,500) that can be used to attend the school of their choice?
School choice also allows students to vote with their feet. Poorly run schools would go out of business. Well run schools would thrive. The free market clearly works best for other businesses, why go full on socialist for the education of our children? Are they less important than where we buy our groceries or gasoline?
