ignores the fact that many of today's Republicans are yesteryear's Democrats. It's correct that Democrats argued for slavery, for instance, and after the Republicans and Lincoln won the civil war, the entire South changed to Democrats. They stayed that way until 1964.
The South's Republican base today is no way the Republican base of 1860.
